Research

I study computing that stays close to the body and to the surrounding environment: devices that sense, compute, and learn where the data is collected. The questions I care about sit between wearable systems, on-device machine learning, and ultra-low-power sensing.

Wearable and ubiquitous computing

I am interested in wearable and environmental sensing that is practical to wear or deploy, and in how those devices can support everyday activity without constant attention or bulky hardware.

On-device machine learning

I am interested in machine learning that runs on the device itself. Local inference can lower latency, limit how much raw sensor data leaves the device, and keep a system usable when a network connection is poor or unavailable.

Ultra-low-power and battery-free sensing

I am interested in sensing under severe energy constraints, including systems that harvest energy instead of relying on a conventional battery. The aim is sensing that can operate for a long time in a small, low-maintenance form.
